My trip to the F-act clinic in Holland

Post by benzo »

Hi all, Wanted to inform you about my visit to the F-act clinic in Holland. It’s a good 3-hour drive for me and since Fetske works closely together with David Wise, I was more than curious to see what I could get out of the session. I have been working together with a knowledgeable physio for years but it’s always nice to get extra insight, especially from someone who is one of the world’s leading specialists on CPPS.

She and her fellow physio Branca are wonderful. Since we all speak Dutch, communication was easy! The session took all morning with an intake, external and internal examination and a wrap-up with a self-treatment plan. Afterwards, they will answer any additional questions you may have, Fetske is always quick to respond to my e-mails so that’s a big plus.

She showed me the approved wand. I decided not yet to buy it, since the price is set by David Wise himself and is quite steep for what is basically a plastic device with a digital pressure gauge. I assume it’s the R&D and the fact that it is not yet mass-produced that drive up the cost.

As for the results themselves: they mimicked more or less my physio's findings, and this may be the strange part: I don’t have any trigger points that refer pain in different areas. My abdomen, which she suspected was one of the main areas for scrotal discomfort was quite relaxed and smooth and they did not locate any real trigger points. She’s very skilled in internal work as well but was not able to refer pain to other areas so I’m guessing that’s a definitive find. She told me that trigger points not necessarily refer pain and there were quite some problem areas, especially the pyramidalis.

She gave me a mapping of all trigger points, very useful to do self treatment.

All in all I’m very happy to have made the trip and will go and visit her again.

It’s difficult to draw conclusions, but I’d say that in my case the mental aspect is very important.

I’m experiencing a bad flare after having experienced a very stressful period, moving house again, taking care of two income properties, and working a sales job full time. Sport wise I gave up weight training a couple of years ago and transitioned to boxing. I took a break from sparring but kept exercising on my own, jogging, rope skipping, heavy bag work etc. No ab work or squats though, especially squats are directly contributing to the problems.

Gradually, I stepped up the pace again, probably overdoing it and I am now resuming the protocol in full swing. Definitely need to pace myself here, because the result is predictable.

Quick note: Dr Wise is no longer recommending this clinic. I'm not sure why.

Only now did I notice your comment. That is strange because she was involved in setting up the first European chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome training for PTs 2,5 years ago.
She was also authorize to sell the self-treatment devices Dr Wise designed.

If I'm correct she was the only one in Europe that was more or less affiliated with Dr Wise.

From what I have heard, they have a slight difference in approach and philosophy and this is why Wise has chosen not to endorse Fetske. Dr Wise is very strict about how his protocol is delivered....
