Relaxation CD

Post by Futwox »

Since you can't order the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol relaxation tapes can anyone suggest a good alternative on CD? I don't like the attitude of the book that you can't do it yourself. I agree that it is likely best to learn from someone with experience, but really what can hurt by trying?

I'd like to start doing the relaxation exercises but I'm not sure which CDs are applicable to the needs of CPPS. I see a lot of sleep relaxation type CDs but not much else.

There are a lot of relaxation CDs available - none that I know of, specifically geared to pelvic relaxation. Unless anyone here offers a good suggestion I reckon you have to take your pick and possibly shop around until you find one that suits.

Good luck - you're on the right track..

I know I am repeating myself... but you do not need a CD. They are all pretty gimmicky in my mind and eventually distract me.
All you need is to concentrate on your breath or count each breath and chase thoughts out of your mind. Quickly you will get into the relaxation state.
It is extremely simple yet difficult to achieve and you need some training. At this point it takes me about 30s and then wow! Great feeling.

The following is a good introduction to the many variations of meditation. It is a nice collection on 2 CDs of techniques you can try and compare:

I got the Zeta Meditation CD ... worked very well for me. Don't know if the "science" behind is any good or not.

Now I sleep better than before I had issues.

There are 2 types of tapes: guided meditation and music.

The music even if "scientifically" engineered makes me daydream. This is not relaxation.
The guided meditation tapes almost all follow the following protocol:

- Sit or lie in a comfortable position.
- Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Let your breathing be slow and relaxed.
- Focus all your attention on your breathing. Notice the movement of your chest and abdomen in and out.
- Block out all other thoughts. If you feel your attention wandering, bring it back to your breathing.
- As you inhale, say a word to yourself (could be "1"), and as you exhale, say another word (could be "2"). Keep going until you reach the relaxation state. You will know that you achieved the relaxation state when you suddenly feel your breathing become very light.

Again, relaxation is neither taking a nap or daydreaming.
Relaxation technique puts you into the Alpha state between consciousness and sleep. Ten minutes of relaxation can energize you more than an hour and a half of sleep (great to fight jet lag for example).
Once you know how to do it you will also throw away all the tapes. You do not see Yogis with headphones.

I'm searching for relaxation CDs, too, and would be grateful if anyone would share theirs on MP3.

How should it feel

Post by Futwox »

Well I've tried doing 3 45 minute relaxation sessions now. All I do is slow my breathing to 6 breaths a minute and count 1 on inhale and 2 on exhale for the first 10-15 mins then I stop counting and just breathe.

I doubt I'm doing it right yet as it is hard to tune out outside noises. A couple of things I have noticed though. I'm not sure if this is normal. When done it really doesn't feel like 45 minnutes have past. When I start to move my whole body feels really heavy for the first 20-30 seconds.

Hopefully I am doing this right and more practice will lead to good results.

Thanks to all who submitted relaxation CD suggestions. I am probably going to buy a couple to check them out and see how they work for me.

Relaxation

Post by gifford »

I tried doing relaxation but had a difficult time relaxing or knowing when my pelvis wad really relaxed or dropped. Just focusing breathing and trying to "relax" did seem to work for me at firs. Dr. Wises's book A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS says that when you relax you almost feel like you were going to pee.
For me renting a bio feed back machine helped me with that. Before that my microvolts were a 0.2 -3 when trying to "relax". . With that machine I can bring it down too 0.02-0.03 range. But it takes a lot of concentration to keep it there with the feeling like you are almost peeing.. But at least now I know what relaxing my pelvis feels like. So now I know what to do, I may return the machine. Now I know why it is call "paradoxical" relaxation. It takes work and concentration. Normal relaxation does not.
