Alpha Blocker alternatives?

Post by elias »

I have longstanding chronic non-bacterial prostatitis Type IIIA. It resolved somewhat years ago, but I still get occasional nasty bouts, mostly urgency and frequency.

Two years ago, I was prescribed Silodosin, a selective alpha blocker, and symptoms were totally gone! But side effects were pretty bad and it seemed like overkill. Also, it completely stopped working after 8 weeks. On another occasion I took Tamsulosin ( to make a kidney stone move out easier) and had no side effects on that, but I didn't need to use it very long

QUESTION:

Are there any natural alternative treatments (supplement or exercise regimen..etc..) which can achieve, to some extent, what Silodosin/Tamsulosin achieved? Namely, relaxation of the smooth muscles in the bladder/prostate. I know there's thread on this topic in this sub-forum, but it specifies "stress reduction" only. I'm hoping for something more specific.

So far, most phytotherapies claim to work in terms of anti-inflammatory effects. I'm wondering if there are any that more specifically relax smooth muscles

Thanks

Before trying natural antispasmodics, I would run right through the list of a-blockers. They are all slightly different and you may find one that suits you.
