Here is a far out idea for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome sufferers
Ibogaine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibogaine
See the part on pain management. Also may be effective in behavior modification and breaking harmful, obsessive thought patterns (something I know I could benefit from). What if we suddenly stopped responding to every stressor, worldy or otherwise, by tensing the pelvic muscles?
Anyone here familiar with this drug?

Re: Ibogaine???
I have heard it discussed by some folks who seem reputable. Thanks for bringing it back to mind. It certainly seems appropriate for people with severe addiction, but considering it for persons with less difficulty is worth considering

Re: Ibogaine???
"In the United States and most European countries it is classified as an illegal drug because at least eight persons have died after having taken Ibogaine. These fatalities occurred in most cases several days after ingestion or following the intake of very small doses."

An excellent argument for large dosage! :)
But seriously, adverse effects are always a risk. However, the article did not say what health condition those people were in. Likely had pre-existing CV issues.

Re: Ibogaine???
Indeed no deaths have been conclusively shown to be caused by Ibogaine. Also the inference that it is illegal because of safety factors is surely mistaken as well.
Re: Ibogaine???
It's available legally in Thailand. I am thinking about it. Perhaps it would reset my brain somehow. However, you read the stories of people who went through it and no one says 'it was so great'. It's almost uniformly described as almost a psychedelic hell along with crazy vomiting, but then after 12 hours or so you move into another phase and after a few days you feel 'refreshed' with a new outlook. My biggest concern would be for my symptoms to intensify (like they do if I smoke pot), but to the point where I just can't take it. Ketamine along with some nice music and an eye pillow certainly sounds more pleasant. Maybe I'll end up doing both.
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.
