Well this is very interesting. It looks like you need a doctor's prescription to order one. There is also no discussion as to cost.
I wonder how you would even go about asking for this thing at your doctor's office. "Hey doc, there's this weird machine you've probably never heard of...can you please write me a prescription for one?"

Age: 35 Onset Age: 31
Symptoms: An almost constant feeling of the need to urinate all the time. Pain in the penis, at the tip, and "behind" the penis inside the pelvis. Also urethral pain after ejaculation. No rectal pain or symptoms at all.
Helped By: Hot baths, Dr. Wise's relaxation tapes. Internal trigger point work every two days with the Wise-Anderson Protocol wand.
Worsened By: Ejaculation (changes the pain to a burning sensation most times) Alcohol increases urinary frequency greatly. Falling "off the wagon" and not following the Wise-Anderson Protocol protocol.

? I didn't claim it was part of a published study. The article simply provides additional information about the device. We can take it with a grain of salt given that it has been provided entirely by the manufacturer, but given the lack of existing information out there about it, some people might find it helpful to read up on it.

Re: PainShield "Reduces Pelvic and Bladder Pain"
Just recently, I've asked a doctor I know (from my nursing studies), who is a gynecologist and an ultrasound specialist, for his opinion. He said that the idea itself was not new and that technique was not found to be effective in treating chronic pain/discomfort in the pelvic and genitalia region. But maybe he was not up to date abut this issue. It could be interesting to hear from someone who tried that.
Age: 30 | Onset Age: 19| Symptoms: Urinary frequency, Urinary urgency, constant 24/7 sensation in the penis (in the tip mainly - burning/pressure/discomfort/"wetness"), Nocturia, discomfort and pressure in the pelvic region radiating to the abdomen and becoming severe as time passes since last urination (resolved in 2014 by myofascial release), Stream velocity is somewhat slow and prolonged with an average velocity of ~13cc/min (and max 18cc/min) found in flowmetry test when bladder is filled with 500cc at age 25 (I always feel like I need to press my abdomen to urinate, improved later on when using alpha blockers)| Helped By: especially MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (especially in the areas of hips and abdomen) - generally resolved my abdominal aches, but penile symptoms remained the same| Worsened By: Coffee and possibly some other food as well| Other comments: Quercetin and acupuncture helped me no more than a placebo effect. Age 25-26: Diagnosed with indirect inguinal hernia and medium hydrocele at the same side. After operation many of the acute symptoms disappeared, but the chronic urinary and pelvic symptoms remained much the same.

No worries!
This isn't a comment on this particular device, but I have had some mixed success using therapeutic ultrasound. Wondering what experiences of others have been like.

Re: PainShield "Reduces Pelvic and Bladder Pain"
I used such a thing at a therapists office, Can't really tell you if it helps because I only received it twice. Usually after a visit to the PT I was better the next day, but obviously it could have been anything that I did while I was there..
I'd be willing to buy one if I could, and give my results back here.

Age:29 | Onset Age: 27 | Symptoms: Rectal burning after bowel movement, rectal tightness, stinging and shocking near thighs sometimes. | Helped By: Hot bath, Muscle relaxers such as Flexeril, not sitting an entire day | Worsened By: Stress, sitting a lot, anxiety, problems with relationship (emotional issues)| Other comments: I recommend A Headache in the Pelvis, and reading my story fully.
Re: PainShield "Reduces Pelvic and Bladder Pain"
Okay so I wrote to the guys that make this Painshield device. I asked them a bunch of questions. Here's the email I got back:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your email.
To answer your questions:
How do I ask my doctor for this? What kind of prescription does he need to write?
- Please show your doctor the information from our web site. He needs to write a prescription that says something like "Dispense one PainShield". You can fax, email or mail us the prescription.
Also, what is the cost to me to purchase such a device?
- The cost is $850, which includes two pads. (all costs plus shipping). You can pay by paypal (I think that includes credit cards even without a paypal account) or check.
Also, is it reusable?
- The driver is reusable and is warrantied for a year. The pads are re-usable up to 50 hours or 7 treatment cycles of 6.5 hours each.
Do I need to purchase additional pads?
- Additional pads are $45, but for a 10-pack they will be $40 each.
Please send me more info so I can try out this product!
- All of the info we have is on our web site www.kevmed.com, including the prescribing information.
Please call me if you have further questions. I will follow up in a week or two.
Sincerely

Okay soooooo...this device is a lot more expensive than I thought. I don't think I'm going to drop +850 bucks until I hear more about the effectiveness of this product. At almost a thousand dollars, you're 1/3 of the way to paying for a full Wise-Anderson Protocol clinic, which is a much more reliable way to deal with CPPS, imo.

Re: PainShield "Reduces Pelvic and Bladder Pain"
Um, whoa. $850?? That's insanely expensive. If this really is simply an ultrasound device, I would think they could produce it for under $200 at most.
Yoink, did you get an email from sufferingispain? Apparently he lives in L.A.

Re: PainShield "Reduces Pelvic and Bladder Pain"
Of course we would all pay $850 in a second if we knew this was a cure. I guess I would be interested in trying it, but don't have the extra money at this point. I also don't see a lot of guidance on their site as to how often and for what duration it should be used. And where do you put it exactly?
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.
Re: PainShield "Reduces Pelvic and Bladder Pain"
From another forum:
PainShield MD received Friday, it is now Sunday. I would like to have a bit more experience with the device before writing a full review - but - so far I can report very positive results. After a week of averaging only 4. 5 hours of sleep per night (I wear the UP Band by Jawbone to track sleep and activity) for the week prior to trying the PainShield, I slept a full 7 hours the first night! Seven hours. That is a record for me. I was not awoken by pain. That is amazing. The Hubs and friends expected me to have boundless energy after one day, but I have to admit that I eagerly wait for the device to charge so that I can turn it on and lie down and sleep, peacefully, for hours on end. I have been so sleep deprived for so long that getting 6, 7, 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep is a delightful indulgence. I can see scheduling my life around the 6 hour intervals of use and recharging of the Pain Shield. Oh, and YES, the reduction of pain is remarkable. The treatment is subtle, I do notice a wave of warmth now and again, but frankly I have been sleeping when I have it on....... more to come.... Thanks, again, to David Wiseman for personally answering my questions about the device, assisting me in the ordering process. AND for getting this device to the USA for those of us here. Well done. Donna
