Steroid Injections

Post by MajorSky1 »

Been reading about cortisone steroid injections on line. I had my first injection almost a week ago and I can't say that I notice any difference yet, except that maybe some pain is a little more noticeable actually. They say around 2 weeks for it to kick in. They tell you the steroid will shut down the nerve so it can heal. That sounds like it makes sense, right? Turn the nerve off so it can rest and heal so that as the steroid wears off, the nerve comes back to its normal state, and not hypersensitive like it was.

But I've also read that steroids can or do hamper healing, preventing the body's use of inflammation to deliver its healing nutrients to the damaged site. We assume the medical world has done its thorough research and testing and it knows how all this works. Are they actually just guessing based on some results?

So do steroids help with healing in some cases while in other cases it inhibits?

Caudal steroid injections are for treating back pain and sciatica. Have not heard of them used for CPPS

They said start with the caudal, which usually helps guys with anorectal pain, and groin pain, see how that goes, then zero in. Next, in a few weeks, they (PA and Dr.) said injecting the bundle of nerves behind the coccyx (pudendal?). I haven't decided if I'm going to go back, leaning towards not.

I have one more focused pain spot that has been virtually gone for a few weeks, only detectable if I really looked for it at times. However, this morning, for some reason, it's very noticeable, hurts. It's nice to think that maybe they could inject and relieve it. Yet, if I had some kind of reassuring indication that it would eventually resolve itself for good - even if it takes months to completely go away - I'd rather just leave it be than risk slowing healing by use of steroids. These decisions are hard to make when you are chronically very uncomfortable. :(

I'm not a fan of injections.

Regarding reassurances, very few people return to the forum after a few years. Even those members who are active posters for several years eventually "graduate" to a point where their symptoms are absent or tolerable. That's extremely reassuring, in my book!

I do try to keep that in mind, yes.
I look forward to that day. :)
Thank you.

It'll happen. It always does.

I've lost count of the number of "old boys" who contact me privately to report long term success
