Coffee and Caffeine

Post by CMT23 »

If the problem is muscular then why does a medium sized iced coffee increase my urgency and frequency 10 fold? At work i really enjoy the mental stimulation of a coffee, but it makes me run to the bathroom to urinate perhaps 5 to 6 times over 2-3 hours. Is this just because the nerves of the urogenital system have been adversely affected due to the chronically tight muscles over the past 16 years or is this an indication of a problem with the bladder itself? (No other acidic drinks have this affect on me apart from alcohol, which for the first hour or so seems to quiet my symptoms and then for the next 48 hours makes them much worse).

Do you think coffee actually makes the condition worse and impedes healing or does it simply worsen symptoms in the short term?
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.

Bladder, prostate and pelvic floor are all interconnected.

This is a very key question. In my experience, it seems like this kind of stuff impedes healing. For me, it's coffee, alcohol, and sex.

Life is quite livable without coffee or alcohol. Ask Mitt Romney. :-D

I do wonder if I am impeding healing by my once a day coffee habit, but then I had intense symptoms for nearly 15 years where I never drank coffee at all. Never. So not sure how much it really matters in my case. Alcohol on the other hand usually ups the severity of my symptoms big time for 48 hours or so and I can see how that could actually impede healing. Ejaculation - well I am not sure. This whole thing started for me during ejaculation itself so I know it's connected. Sometimes I feel better afterwards and sometimes worse. I have abstained for up to 2 weeks without any improvement in symptoms.

I have abstained one time for 3 weeks, apart from 1-2 episode of ejaculation while dreaming at night. I never have a symptom after ejaculation since I start complaining about this problem.

Also days or even weeks go without me having a single coffee and frequency+urgency come and go. For example I stayed home on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and did the same usual things (tv, pc, stretching). Saturday was not the good day for me the other 2 were much better. I felt it was not a good day for me after eating an apple in the morning and going in toilet 1 hour after the previous visit.

I can understand when I will have problems usually from the beginning now. Maybe I just got a bit nervous the day before about some things I had to discuss, nothing to add apart from that.
Onset Age:26 | It was probably due to Upper Cervical Instability and a connective tissue disorder like EDS

Why not drink decaf? Do you really notice a difference....? I don't.

I stopped drinking so much coffee and soda's - they're bad for you. But if need be, Caffeine free coke and coffee to me taste the same.

If you stick to the caffeine free for a few weeks you will see that it isn't so bad, you will acquire its taste, and eventually regular coffee will be unpleasant.
