Tiny amounts of gluten do damage the intestines, but you may not actually experience symptoms. Large amounts damage the intestines far more, and make symptoms much more likely.

Good because the way they talk on Celiac.com is like you can have a breadcrumb every 2 weeks and do as much damage to your intestines as regularly eating gluten. This is what has been said - no exaggeration!
BTW - I still actively avoid gluten in everything. I even have a list at home and work of all food items containg gluten right down to disodium in cheese and onion crisps!

I've just been diagnosed with a gluten intolerance (did a test through enterolab.com). This explains a lot now. This is why resolving one symptom brings on other symptoms for me, and why my muscles go into spasm so easy. Also this may be why I don't gain weight.
I know I've read that it could take 1 to 2 years to get it out of you system. Any chance that symptoms may improve within a shorter time frame?

Age: 36 | Symptoms: Started with urethra/penis pain. Now have low back and posterior pelvic pain. Have been doing SP since May 2004.
I'm curious about your Enterolab scores.
I got 117 on gluten, 115 on antitissue, 160 on casein. The only thing I did OK on was the fat.
I also got 10 on eggs, 13 on yeast and 37 on soy. (9 is the normal limit on all scores).
I'm finding it just as hard to eliminate soy as gluten. Soy lecithin is in everything.
I haven't seen effects yet and wonder if there aren't other sensitivities that I don't know about yet. I suspect eliminating gluten will help the most, but if I'm still doing damage by eating other stuff, then the benefits may be hard to see.

Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

Remember that only gluten (casein a few here and there are claiming might) damage your intestines. Other food allergies you mention are caused by leaky gut syndrome which is common and can be caused by loads of factors including gluten intolerance.
Over time with a combination of digestive enzymes, supplements to heal the gut lining (colostrum etc), and food avoidance many foods can be re-introduced. No gluten though! This process is part of the body's natural healing process and is documented more so now than a few years back. I have a great book that I will give details on asap.
Ultimately, the body is more resistant than having to live on potatoes and meat forever - allergies are a symptom in a way & they become more in number when the big offender is left untreated - the damaged gut!

Webslave, I've had the same "over-deification" or loose stool issue since puberty. I am positive over use of the sphincter muscles is related to the pathogenesis of CPPS.
