Diet and Candidas

Post by Sherradin »

Now I dont want to put anyone off the HITP protocol because it has got me so much better than I have ever been but amongst the myriad of causes/trigger for CPP can be candidia or maybe in my case thrush. If you have been given rounds of antibiotics like I have you may have an underlying candidiasis situation. I know the candidas argument is a barrow pushed hard by alternative practitioners but as a female thrush is pretty easy to identify and I have had a battle with this ever since my symptoms started. I knew it was related to diet but now I think it is sugar and alcohol and the usual candidas triggers.

From a male perspective read icsuccessonline.com/Bill.htm Bills story was what made me think I had nothing to lose trying antifungals after the years of antibiotics for a non existent bladder infection. Read what he says as it applies to men I just dont know in what percentage of cases. But if you had some clue to candidas ie jock rash, athlete foot etc you might consider it if you had done all the antibiotic therapy. I believe in Scandinavian countries they suggest taking probiotics after antibiotics.

I now begin to think I had underlying candidas that started the burning and all the years of over exercise led to a large myofascial component.

Anyway I don't want to send people up the garden path but for me adding antifungals and a no sugar alcohol diet has further improved my symptoms. I am now having large parts of the day pain free and am considering stopping the Lyrica. That is a world away from two years ago.
CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.

Once again, chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome has never been linked to fungal infection, despite careful tests. And millions of women get thrush without having chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or BPS/IC. It's extremely common. The so-called anti-candida diet excludes sugar, a known irritant of the bladder, as well as several other foods that are trigger for some people (e.g. gluten-containing foods). Citing Candida as a cause of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or IC is simply quackery.

This is not meant as a personal attack, Sherradin, just calling it like I see it.

Fair enough..it may not be a cause but in my case as my specialist says "it is a further noxious irritant to the nerves in that region" and it does seem to perpetuate my symptoms. It is one of the many triggers that Jerome Weiss talks about avoiding in trying to manage this thing.

No offence taken. And I think in this case as per one of the women's websites for vulvodynia there is a link between recurrent thrush and the evolution of myofascial pain. Its more a women's issue.
