Pelvic pain is a common complaint encountered in urological practice, yet many urologists feel uncomfortable managing this patient population. For those urologists, this is a "cut to the chase" course designed to provide attendees with a practical approach to diagnose and treat common causes of pelvic pain from both a urological and gynecological perspective. Pelvic pain associated with interstitial cystitis (IC), chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and vulvar pain syndromes will be reviewed. Pathophysiology of the various entities will not be discussed so that more attention may be dedicated to case studies, diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies. Forms of care discussed will include: behavioral therapies; oral, intravesical and topical medications; interventional radiological techniques; trigger point injections; neuromodulation; endoscopic therapy; incorporation of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, and more.

Objectives: After attending this course, participants should be able to:

* describe the increasing prevalence of functional pelvic and vulvar pain and the association with various urological and gynecological conditions
* identify comorbid conditions that might complicate the diagnosis and management of these patients
* differentiate and diagnose the various forms of functional pelvic and vulvar pain
* apply various forms of care for patients suffering from pelvic and vulvar pain
