Food Allergy Testing

Post by Bossman »

Like a lot of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome sufferers, I have chronic sinusitis (one or both sides of nose obstructed due to inflammation 100% of the time). I would even rank my sinusitis ahead of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in terms of negatively affecting my life. After two surgeries on my nose and about 10 medications (nothing worked), I was finally tested for allergies. The only environmental things I'm allergic to are dust mites and tree pollen, and I'm now getting shots for these. For foods, I was only allergic to some fish and coconut (rarely eat either).

However, after a bit of research, I'm interested to see if wheat may be causing BOTH the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and sinusitis (along with my other medical annoyance - teeth grinding).

My question is, would a wheat intolerance show on my allergy report? I specifically asked the doctor if I was allergic to either wheat or dairy and he said no. Does this rule out the possibility that wheat is the problem?

If wheat was the problem, I would gladly never touch it again.

Thanks guys.

As I've said many times, wheat is only a problem if it causes diarrhoea or headaches or phlegm or other symptoms. If you notice that your body reacts to a food, even if it's up to a day after eating it, take note and avoid that food. You have to be a bit of a detective and it helps to write down what you have eaten so you can look back later.

For sinuses, foods that traditionally cause mucus secretion and stuffiness are milk products and bananas (strangely). I also find corn causes my nasal passages to inflame and close up. I have my own sinusitis cure.

Food allergy tests are not very useful. They often flag foods that are not problems as problems, and vice versa. Much better is an elimination diet.
