Question Flax seed oil, Saw Palmetto

Post by joesph »

I am a 51 year old male and I have had non-bacterial prostatitis for about 10 years. I am interested in educating myself about prostatitis and finding relief for my symptoms. My primary symptom is pain and discomfort after urination along my urethra. This pain and discomfort lasts off and on all day and the prostatitis episode can last up to 2 months. If I assume my prostrate is inflamed and that is causing referral pain to my urethra … How can I alleviate my symptoms, Antibiotics don’t seem to work, or they don’t work quickly. What else can I try, flax seed oil, Saw Palmetto? Any better pain medicine than Ibuprofen? More frequent ejaculations?

Don't simply assume that. While there may well be some inflammation in the uroepithelium, the pain and symptoms are probably coming from neuromuscular phenomena. See https://www.ucpps.men/chronic-prostatitis-is-a-psychoneuromuscular-condition

Ask your doc for ultram (Tramadol) for pain management or if that dont help try another weaker opoiod like codeine at first ! Beware of the side effects and check out the pain management threads on here for advice
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Thanks for the reply. I read the link on Pelvic Pain Syndrome (Pelvic Myoneuropathy). It was very interesting. I would not rule out anything, but my PSA also rises during my prostatitis episodes and then goes back down after. Would that eliminate the possibility of Pelvic Pain Syndrome?
One of the most frustrating parts about my symptoms is trying to figure out what is the best treatment or what caused an episode to start. Diet, reduce alcohol and coffee, less ejaculations, more ejaculations, stress, drink more water??????? I can not find any correlation between these things and my symptoms. I haven’t tried flaxseed or Saw Palmetto yet, that is why I was asking about them.
This current episode has lasted over 60 days. My longest episode, usually they are about a month.

I am going to the doctor Wednesday, I will ask him about this. It sounds potent and may have side effects. My urologist told me that the prostrate has low blood follow to it and that is why Ibuprofen sometimes doesn’t work.

Thanks, Joe
