gluten

Post by danno »

After dealing with this problem for many years, I have found that reducing my gluten intake as much as possible (complete elimination is almost impossible in a Western diet - unless I make it my life's mission) has been the only thing to reduce my symptoms. Also irritants like coffee and tea seem to have a pronounced effect.
When I avoid these things for a few days, my pain is significantly reduced and the bloated feeling in my stomach/pelvis calms down.
I have no idea why, but I do know that this whole problem began after a course of antibiotics I was on as a teenager for acne.
My theory is that the medication disrupted by bowel flora and led to something like the mysterious 'leaky gut' syndrome, which in turn has set up some kind of histamine/mast cell degranulation response, which then leads to muscular contraction and all the problems discussed in AHIP.
I am also on 10 mg amitriptyline a day which I find very helpful.
I still hope that one day there will be more research into this problem so that people in our situation can get the help they need - or at least something better than the patronizing/incredulous reaction we are used to from most people in the medical profession.

I'm also researching this, and currently I've excluded all sugar, dairy and gluten. Now hows that for a diet!
I can barely eat anything and if it would only be gluten, that would be great!
Have you searched the internet for help with recipes and so on. Believe me a totally gluten free diet is not impossible at all, you need some hints and tips thats all!
I wish you well and hopefully youve found the cause of your problems!

Have you gotten a test for Celiac disease?
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Not medical advice. Consult your doctor.

Can you get tested if you have gluten intolerance in a food intolerance test?
