Needless to say this condition can cause severe depression.
I was given valium to "cope" and although it greatly relieved my general overall sense of fear regarding my symptoms, I think after a couple of days of staying off out of regard of addiction, my anxiety and depression have returned ten fold.
Is this possible?
Out of good sense I have stopped taking it.
Any advice?

Depression & Valium
Age:37 | Onset Age: 35 | Symptoms: pain in testicles that comes and goes that also switches sides-trying to find a pattern as to "why" this happens/Rectal Burn at the 6 O'clock position at my anus which tends to flare around the periphery of my anus typically after defication but no perineum pain-no "golf ball" pain. Pain in testicles worsens as I sit but not always...Pain is not always present but depresses me. Pain used to be at a very high level but has subsided in time to a low level but has not gone away. Pain used to flare after sex but not as much as before although it still like playing russian roulette./
/Lack of SleepHelped By: I haven't found anything that has helped to my knowledge. Tried many many sessions of PT, accupuncture and chiropractic care but still have not found steady relief that takes me back to a pre CPPS state.

Stopping valium suddenly can cause 'rebound' anxiety. I don't think this is the best med to deal with depression/anxiety. Consider asking your GP about an SSRI .
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour
I was told to take it as needed.
Took it for 1 day then off for 2.
I then took it for 3 days straight since it was so good and took one day off.
The next day I'm freaking out....
If I need to go on an anti depressant I'd try Elavil before taking an SSRI.

Betablockers can be good for the treatment of anxiety - and they are non-additive. Worth asking your GP about them.

Re: Depression & Valium
You know valium is a funny medication. I take it regularly and have found it to be a complete lifesaver. I stopped taking it for about two weeks, and the worst I felt from an anxiety standpoint was that I was really hyper. However, my muscles did tense up and cause some symptoms. For me, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, my symptoms actually improved for a few days, but then returned. SO I just take it at night as one portion of my regimen. maybe once or twice a week I won't take it, but it really does quell the feelings of anxiety, even after being on it for a year.
Good to go!
Re: Depression & Valium
I have a great psych who has helped tremendously. MY depression was very bad this summer that I was at times suicidal. I am now on 5mg of valium 2x a day - morning & evening and then 75 mg of zoloft which I take at night.
My mood has stabilized and I am functioning much better. If I went off the valium I would work with my psych to wean off slowly.

Re: Depression & Valium
I initially went on Valium at the request of my PT, when I first began internal therapy. My muscles were so locked up that it wasn't possible to work on them without the aid of medication. Valium did the trick with that, and also helped some with my anxiety as nice bonus.
My pain management doctor has replaced Valium with Zanaflex, as he feels it is more applicable to my situation for a few reasons. However, I had no issues in withdrawing from the Valium after taking it daily for months. In fact, I was able to stop it and switch drugs in the same week without negative consequences.
I think it's really an individual thing as far as addiction and withdrawal are concerned. Valium is a bit maligned for these factors, when in fact, many people take it on a daily basis and do just fine. Sometimes, we must live with meds in order to have greater function. So long as you are taking the medication as prescribed (whether it be Valium, a narcotic, or anything else) and not dipping in for extra, you may be dependent, but not an addict.

Re: Depression & Valium
MY psych said the addiction factor on valium was like 1 in 4000 and most likely had problem with chemical addictions previously - so it's rare.

Re: Depression & Valium
Valium is an addictive substance. However, I have stopped taking it for weeks and the only side effect I had was a little irritability and hyper activity -- never once a hardcore craving (like when you need a cig). I think its a double edged sword. For the wrong people it will produce those addictive cravings, but I think most can deal without getting into trouble.
