Re: Botox used to ease pelvic pain
ppp - What I don't like, is that lets say it works for 6-12 months this time, what are the chances it will work the next time or the time after? Sooner or later, if you keep doing it, you're bound to roll the dice and not get the outcome you're expecting. It's always going to be a gamble.
Age: 52 | Onset Age:49 (but I may have had warning signs 25 yrs earlier)| Symptoms: Pretty much all the usual suspects. Frequency, urgency, inability to always empty, burning and numbing uretheral, penile & perineum pain. Frequent urination at night.| Helped By: Internal PT. Myrbetriq helps but is by no means great. TENS to help sleep, and hand held massages of the lower back, hips and buttocks. Standing and physical labor help. Stretches and hot baths. Occasionally use gel iced pad on the perineum. Worsened By: Sitting (being sedentary), driving, sex, bowel movements, tight clothing and underwear. | Other comments: Currently trying L-Theanine

Two Article for Viginsmus Treatment:
1- Botulinum Toxin in the Treatment of Refractory Vaginismus :
http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/do ... 1&type=pdf
2-Comparison of 500 Units Vs 250 Units of Botulinum Toxin (Abobotulinumtoxina) for the Treatment of Severe Vaginismus

They Present great results for Vaginismus treatment by BTX injection in Puborectalis muscle (One part of Levator Ani Muscle)
It seems it can be developed for CPPS.

Re: Botox used to ease pelvic pain
Does anyone know why Botox injection in to pelvic floor muscles is more effective in women rather than men?
Researchs shows Botox injection in women is more popular than men.
Am I correct?

Re: Botox used to ease pelvic pain
Botulinum toxin injections into the levator ani with the intent to relieve pelvic muscular spasms can be performed on both sexes. Finding the person who will do it is the difficult thing. It's still very new, no insurance coverage I would guess.

Re: Botox used to ease pelvic pain
I'm assuming you mean not covered by insurance?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is. I thought the Urologist told me that you have to go thru all the other steps and treatments before they would cover it. The same I believe for an implantable neuro stimulating device.

Depends where you live. It won't cure you, but it helps for 6 months to a year.

Re: Botox used to ease pelvic pain
I searched this forum over and over, and I have not seen people who tried Botox. Anyone?
I mean, CPPS have ruined our lives, and Botox has been apparently used successfully.
My PT, who only does pelvic floor told me that if after few sessions I don't feel relief, she suggest that she would refer me to Botox.
How come no one has tried it? I really just heard of it recently, and just realized it is widespread.
I understand we are all afraid of side effects. I am particularly concerned about incontinence or impotence. (I do have the former, but not terrible).
Is that reason people shy away from it? And it is this fear justified by the data?

Re: Botox used to ease pelvic pain
From what I have read in other forums, there are severe risk of spasms of other muscles, compensating the one which was injected by Botox. So you might shift your pain some inches further or otherwise complicate havoc in your pelvis. But CPPS might be so devastating condition that I understand people who try this avenue.
