Well, bottom line is that the response to the formation of a nonprofit to lobby for research funds to be channelled into scientifically acceptable research (instead being of peed into the wind through donations to private clinics) has been absolutely miserable. :icon8: Unless something drastic chang...

Good idea I know that IC is linked to allergies, and I suspect chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is the same way.

New Supplement on Prostatitis in "Urology"

Looks like "Urology" just published a new supplement on prostatitis. Here are the abstracts: 1: Urology 2002 Dec;60(6 Suppl):42-3 Bladder training biofeedback and pelvic floor myalgia. Nadler RB. Department of Urology, Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, Illinois, USA Chronic ...

Richard.N wrote:So that's a third of the male population, plus 10% with CPPS. So that's 40%. Or is my math(s) out?
One third have signs of inflammation, but no symptoms, and less than 10% have CPPS. I personally think the incidence is more like 1-3%, and I have a study supporting me.

Interesting! Those are big :money: figures.

The strong possibility still exists that the wonder drug for CPPS or even the cure may come from research into other, seemingly unrelated conditions.

However you cut it, there are millions of people in the world with IC and CPPS. For some reason, we are not hearing from them

Some men do not have issues with urination (frequency, difficulty etc), and for them Flomax is perhaps not helpful.

The incidence of IC is <2% and although the figures for CPPS are all over the place, my guess is it is also low. This puts the 32% figure into perspective.

Adam, maybe they are trying to work backwards, i.e. first find something that works to alleviate symptoms, then deduce what must be causing the problem. It's also the shortest route to concrete help for patients. They could spend years on the basics while men are not helped. That's my take on it.

Well, I don't know what the selection criteria were for the candidates, but wouldn't a IIIa in symptomatic remission essentially be a class IV? Technically yes, but I'm sure the study would have excluded this sort of situation. And, almost certainly if inflammation is present, but asymptomatic, one...

You are correct that a milestone seems to have been reached.

Quo Vadis? Where to now? It's a time for debate and deliberation among the scientific cognoscenti.

None, is my guess. When you say "shift back" you imply they once had symptoms, but of course they never did.

The CPPS beast is more complex than we thought at first.

Re: Schaeffer's Editorial 2003

Since antimicrobials may have anti-inflammatory
activity, it is possible that these drugs may benefit the patient by
reducing inflammation rather than eradicating bacteria.
