Re: Infection can set off CPPS
This is EXACTLY what happened to me (E.Coli and all). Good find, webslave. Me too. As unpleasant as it was, treating the infection was the easy part; finding out what was at the root of my CPPS symptoms and getting appropriate treatment was a bit more tricky! I have to say that I don't think infect...

Re: UPOINT for IC/PBS
I feel the development of this classification system is definitely a step in the right direction and will ensure treatment is directed towards priority areas for individual patients. However, a major flaw in the system as it stands at the moment is that patients are evaluated for 'Pelvic floor muscl...

Re: Results of NIH myofascial physical therapy trial
Very suggestive results. Agreed. The problem is that trigger-point release is such a difficult treatment to standardise, as it depends largely on the skill and experience or the PT in locating and treating trigger points. Also, it requires adherence to quite a demanding self-treatment proto...

If only it were that straighforward. I was very active prior to CPPS, but exercise is the one thing guaranteed to give me a flare up. I'd point out that I am a sport scientist who specialises in the physical preparation of athletes for competition at the highest level, and therefore have knowledge o...

Re: The Coming Debate Over Treatment
Very interesting points, Mark. The looming debate in the word of male and female pelvic pain is who should be treating us a patient group: urologists (surgeons) on the one hand, or physiotherapists (PTs) and psychologists/psychiatrists on the other. I don'y think it is an 'either or' question. The m...

Could I just pass on a special word of thanks to my Physio who provided invaluable feedback on the first draft, especially on the 'locating a practitioner' section - Cheers Billwebslave wrote:Thanks to everyone involved in making this page.

It certainly sounds like muscle spasm is the root of your problem, although you need an evaluation to be sure. Dr. Kaufman sounds like a good choice as a large part of his treatment strategy seems to centre on the treatment of dysfunctional pelvic floor muscles- you might want to read this interview...

Ibuprofen is a fuuny one for me. When I take it, it improves my symptoms markedly. If I take it before bedtime, when I wake up to go to the toilet (usually only once a night nowadays :) ) my bladder is significantly fuller. Also, the phantom pains I get if I watch someone hurt themselves dissapear w...

Thanks for posting this Mark. Like you, I have one major problem above 'flowchart': Therapies such as biofeedback and pelvic floor physiotherapy are mentioned in the last line, almost as an afterthought, and treatment with skeletal muscle relaxants are not mentioned at all. Given that 90% of CPPS pa...
